[07] DIY: Zipper pouch

Hey guys!

I've tried myself in sewing again. The last time I did this with a machine is like 3 years ago. But surprisingly, I've got some great results to show you! I sewed a nice zipper pouch, which can be used as a make up bag, a pencil case or anything you like. For sure, you can do that in different sizes. I made some super good-looking and professional (haha!) drawings because the light was so too bad to take photos while sewing.. have fun!

Materials:

  • Outer patterned fabric
  • Lining fabrics (i prefer a one-color-piece)
  • A zipper
  • Thread
  • Sewing machine

Instructions:

  1. Decide which size of a bag you want so if you want a pouch for your phone measure your fabric 2 cm larger than your phone, if you want a pencil case like mine, cut your fabric pieces ca. 25x16 cm
  2. Cut two outer patterned and two lining fabrics in exactly this size and leave your zip like 2 cm longer than the length of the side where you want to put it.

    1. When sewing you always have to make sure to put your fabrics in the right place because you sew it inside out! So you have to make yourself clear how it will look like if you turn it right way round after having sewn it.

  3. So: Place your lining fabric down (face up if you have a patterned), then your zip facing up, then the outer fabric facing down. Put each fabric on top of the other so that it creates a straight line like that:

  1. Pin in place and then sew along the side of the zip that is closest to the edge. This is way easier with a zipper foot for your machine.
  2. Fold both fabrics back over the stitching and press down.
  1. Same thing on the other side: lining fabric facing up, zipper facing up, outer fabric facing down.
  1. Pin and sew and press again.
  1. Sew together one of the smaller edges. Then open your zipper! (this is important, otherwise you'll have problems turning your pouch right way round.)
  1. Sew together the other edges.
  2. Then, turn your pouch right around. Pull out the edges.
  3. Tadaaa! This is your selfmade zipper pouch!
